SERIE A: Milan end Roma domination, and Napoli finally fell…

Juventus now sit alone atop the standings after the third round of matches as Napoli and SPAL suffered losses. The Milan clubs recorded morale-boosting wins as only one match ended goalless. Here are our observations for Week 3.

* Parma 1 – 2 Juventus
Mandzukic 2 (J), Gervinho 33 (P), Matuidi 58 (J)

Juventus made it three wins out of three after a hard-fought win at Parma. They sure know how to grind out a result in tricky ties. Stuff of champions. But Dybala starting from the bench for the second match in a row is a surprise. Allegri’s tweaking of his side is still in progress.
Ronaldo is yet to score after three matches. Opposing defenders hound him all day, leaving space for Mandzukic and co. to score. Cristiano’s time will come, surely.

* Milan 2 – 1 Roma
Kessie 40 (M), Fazio 59 (R), Cutrone 95 (M)

Roma had won the last three matches vs Milan at the San Siro but suffered a last-minute heartache as AC Milan got a deserved win. Higuain was very lively as Di Francesco’s side had a name on the scoresheet that wasn’t Edin Dzeko. Gattuso’s side will be buoyed by this win as the Rossoneri seek to return to the top of Italian football.

* Sampdoria 3 – 0 Napoli
Defrel 11, 32 (S), Quagliarella 75 (S)

The Partenopei had comeback wins against Lazio and AC Milan but found no way back against a dominant Sampdoria as Ancelotti suffered his first lost as Napoli coach. Sampdoria had not beaten Napoli since May 2010 as Jose Callejon and Marek Hamsik didn’t play for the first time in three years. Fabio Quagliarella has scored spectacular goals in his career but his goal in this fixture is arguably his best yet. It’s a serious contender for goal of the season already!

* Bologna 0 – 3 Inter
Nainggolan 67 (I), Candreva 82 (I), Perisic 84 (I)

Internazionale won their first match this season at Bologna as coach Luciano Spalletti heaved a sigh of relief with Radja Nainggolan scoring on his Inter debut. Ivan Perisic was also on the scoresheet again for the Nerazzurri, his importance to the team once again on display.
Seems Filippo Inzaghi’s strikers haven’t inherited his goalscoring prowess as the Rossoblu has not scored a goal this season!
